New Hollywood Religious Fads Have Analysts Concerned

When the likes of Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan and other such fame hookers took to “Practicing” kabbalah, most of the global community didn’t think much of it. They were not the first nor would they be the last in long line of celebrities who seek a spiritual solution to their emotional and social bankruptcy, but without any of the archaic rules, or traditions and standards that the faithful usually subscribe and adhere to.

“It’s religion lite,” says Anthropologist Beth Gilmore who chairs the Foundation for Celebrity Conservation, “They have a hard time adapting to a life culture of constant wealth, opulence and super-capitalism. They want some sort of absolution, while at the same time looking to their public as if they have some sort of depth of character.”

But trends come and go, and Hollywood’s elite change religions more often then they change rehabilitation centers. It’s the new fad in fads; have the coolest, most edgy religion, or wait behind the velvet rope.  It’s nothing new. What concerns experts is not the swaggering disrespect for orthodoxy, or even the total lack of theological understanding, but as Beth Gilmore puts it, “The way the trend is trending.” She explains this statement in her new book, funded by the Foundation, “Get Mo’ Hammed for your money.”

“The disturbing trend here is the Stars penchant for glomming on to anything immediately available and topical.” Says Dr. Gilmore, “and it’s a dangerous game.” She adds, speaking about the new Celebrity religious trend of Jihadism.

Already Lindsey Lohan has called a Jihad on Paris Hilton, forcing Hilton to push back the release of her penetrating and cleverly titled debut album, “Paris.” Hillary and Haley Duff have said that they are defiantly interested in a Jihad, feeling it will help them break free from their good girl image. Rumors abounded on the set of Little Man, that the Wayans brothers unfathomable continued success is due to an ongoing Jihad declared by the brothers sometime just before Scary Movie.

In recent days, Celebrity J’hadists have been firing rockets into the Santa Monica Mountains, as well as parts of Hollywood, perhaps in response to MTV’s The Hills, which celebrates a band of spoiled children with little-to-no human value.

An industry A-lister who asked not to be identified as Britney Spears had this to say, “Celebrity Jihad will not give up the fight, we will not surrender, and we will not stop until sometime next week.”
